Department of History and Archaeology

DOCTORAL STUDIES

The doctoral studies of the Department of History and Archeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens aim to promote original scientific research. They are organized and operate in accordance with the provisions of Law 4485/2017 and the general institutional framework.

Entitled to submit an application for the preparation of a doctoral thesis are the following:

  • holders of a Postgraduate Studies Diploma (D.M.S.) from a Higher Education Institution of the country
  • holders of a D.M.S. from a different country recognized as equal
  • the holders of a single and undivided degree at the master's level (See Law 4485/2017, article 46).

Non-holders of D.M.S. with significant published scientific work in the subjects treated by the Department, may be accepted as PhD candidates following a reasoned decision by the Departmental Assembly (Law 4485/2017 article 38).

The preparation of a doctoral thesis lasts from three to five years.
