The Library of the Department of Archaeology and History of Art

The Library of Archaeology and History of Art of the University of Athens was initially operating within the larger Library of the School of Philosophy, from which it was separated by the provisions of the law 5343 of the 23rd-03-1932. As from 19-6-1997 it has been integrated to the Central Library of Philology, History and Archaeology, which will soon move into its new building currently under construction in the University Campus, Zographou, Athens 15784.

The Collection of Periodicals, Series and Monographs covers the subject matters of Prehistoric, Classical and Byzantine Archaeology and the History of Art. Individual titles are sought either manually in the Alphabetical catalogue of Authors or electronically in the Catalogue of the Libraries of the University of Athens (www.lib.uoa.gr ).

The Library possesses a small number of old and rare editions, some of which are currently exposed in a window case, in the entrance hall of the Library. Their use requires special permission and they cannot be photocopied.
